How to relieve morning sickness during pregnancy?

Nausea affects up to 80% of pregnant people, mostly in the first trimester. Here are concrete tips to make it more bearable.

Despite its name, 'morning sickness' can strike at any time of day. It affects roughly 70 to 80% of pregnant people and typically starts between weeks 6 and 9, often (though not always) easing up by the end of the first trimester.

Eating smaller amounts more often, rather than three big meals, helps avoid having an empty or overly full stomach — both can make nausea worse. Simple snacks like crackers, even before getting out of bed, are often recommended.

Ginger — as tea, candies, or capsules — is one of the better-studied remedies and shows a modest benefit for many. Avoiding strong smells that trigger nausea and sipping fluids steadily throughout the day also helps.

If vomiting is frequent, you can't keep fluids down, or you're losing weight, it could be hyperemesis gravidarum, a more severe form that needs medical follow-up. Don't hesitate to bring it up with your healthcare provider — safe treatments exist.
