Pregnancy, libido, and body image: normal changes
Desire and body image often shift during pregnancy — and there's no single 'normal' way to experience it.
Hormonal shifts, fatigue, nausea, and the rapid physical changes of pregnancy often influence libido, sometimes upward, sometimes downward, and these swings can change several times across trimesters. None of these reactions are abnormal — the body is going through one of the biggest physiological changes it will ever experience.
Body image can also become more complicated: some women feel powerful and connected to a body accomplishing something extraordinary, others struggle with a body changing quickly and in ways that feel hard to control. Both experiences, and everything in between, are valid.

Open communication with a partner helps navigate these changes together — expressing needs, what feels physically comfortable or not, and redefining intimacy together beyond the usual expectations can strengthen the relationship rather than create distance.
If negative feelings about your body become persistent, overwhelming, or significantly affect overall well-being, it can help to talk to a perinatal mental health professional. These feelings, though common, shouldn't be dismissed just because they occur in the context of an otherwise healthy pregnancy.
